February 18, 2010 - Ohio Christian Alliance and Ohio Right to Life Report that Wednesday, February 17, the full Ohio Senate voted on SCR. 6, an Ohio resolution to urge the U.S. Congress to prevent federal expansion of abortion. The resolution passed the Senate 21-9, and now goes to the House, a less friendly arena.
Senators Tim Grendell and Steve Buehrer originally introduced the resolution in March 2009. At that time, SCR. 6 urged Congress to oppose the pro-abortion Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and similar legislation.
After a huge pro-life outcry, pro-abortion forces in Congress did not follow through with FOCA but instead focused on expanding abortion through federal healthcare reform efforts. Thus SCR 6 was amended to urge Congress to oppose any legislation that "increases access to or funding for abortion," including any such provisions in federal healthcare reform legislation.
Senators voting pro-life for SCR 6: Steve Buehrer; John Carey; Gary Cates; Kevin Coughlin; Keith Faber; Bob Gibbs; Karen Gillmor; David Goodman; Tim Grendell; Bill Harris; Jim Hughes; Jon Husted; Shannon Jones; Tom Patton; Tim Schaffer; Kirk Schuring; Bill Seitz; Jimmy Stewart; Mark Wagoner; Chris Widener; and Jason Wilson (21).
Senators voting pro-abortion against SCR 6: Capri Cafaro; Eric Kearney; Dale Miller; Ray Miller; Sue Morano; Tom Sawyer; Joe Schiavoni; Fred Strahorn; and Nina Turner (9).
Senators not present for the vote: Teresa Fedor; Tom Niehaus; and Shirley Smith.
The Ohio Prevention of Federal Expansion of Abortion Resolution sends an important message from the state of Ohio to federal legislators entrusted with developing a federal health insurance plan that ...
Genuine American healthcare must protect the health - and lives - of every person at every stage, and every age.
