June 2, 2010 - After seven years lobbying for this legislation spearheaded by the Ohio Christian Alliance, and its long-awaited release last week from committee, the full Ohio Senate has voted and passed S.B. 243, Ohio's Ban on Human-Animal Hybrid experimentation.
We commend the following State Senators for their co-sponsorship of this vital legislation: Senators John Carey, Kevin Coughlin, Keith Faber, Bob Gibbs, Tim Grendell, Shannon Jones and Tim Schaffer."
As Dr. David Prentice of the Family Research Council stated, "Creating 'experimental humans' through nuclear transfer cloning or as human-animal hybrids is an unethical use of science, and will not lead to useful medical treatments for patients. The focus should be on ethical and successful research that puts the patients first."
The bill now goes to the Ohio House of Representatives for consideration and vote, where if approved, will then go to the governor for signature before becoming law.
