Ohio State Representative, 30th District - Robert P. Mecklenborg (R)
The 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, did more than just "legalize" abortion on demand; they prohibited virtually any federal, state or local laws from protecting pre-born children from death by abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
- Do you support reversal of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton?
Yes
I first studied the Roe decision several years after its passage while a student at the University of Cincinnati Law School. It was then and remains now one of the most flagrant examples of judicial activism in the history of the United States Supreme Court. Justice Blackman's decision remains Exhibit "A" in a long line of decisions as to why it is of the utmost importance that we advance conservative pro-life lawyers to all branches of government.
- Do you support state legislation to ban abortion-on-demand from fertilization to birth?
Yes/Yes, with exceptions
I support state legislation to ban abortion on demand from fertilization to birth with the exception of the life of the mother.
- Do you support legislation prohibiting use of tax money for organizations that promote or perform abortions?
Yes
We must be absolutely vigilant at all times with respect to this issue.
- Do you support medical standards, regulations, and inspection of abortion facilities?
Yes
For so long as these facilities exit, I support medical standards, regulations and inspection of abortion facilities and their records. To this end, I co-sponsored and helped usher through the House Health Committee of which I am a member House Bill 314. This bill is known as the Fetal Ultrasound Viewing Bill and requires the abortion provider to allow the expectant mother to view and have a copy of all ultrasounds performed. This bill will allow the mother to make a more informed decision.
- Do you support legislation prohibiting the killing of human embryos by extracting their stem cells for scientific research?
Yes
Among he many reasons I am opposed to the killing of human embryos by extraction of their stem cells for scientific research are:
- It further promotes the culture of abortion in our society and may give pro-abortionists some convenient cover.
- The whole issue is in effect a red herring. There are many extraordinary scientific advances being made in areas such as the use of stem cells derived from adult bone marrow which has been advanced by a team of researchers at Florida State University. The researchers acquired these cells through the Tulane Center for Gene Therapy at Tulane University which is a national distributor of adult cells. There are many other examples of such progress.
- As a matter of legislative policy, we must make absolutely certain that Ohio's legislation and administrative regulations track the best available ethical medical science and practice.
- Do you support legislation prohibiting all cloning of human beings?
Yes
- Do you support legislation prohibiting assisted suicide in Ohio?
Yes
- Will you oppose any legislation or regulation (e.g., campaign finance reform) that has the purpose or effect of restricting, penalizing, chilling, discouraging or prohibiting citizens from contacting their elected representatives or urging others to do so on issues of importance to them?
Yes
Much of the legislation which masquerades as "campaign finance reform" has a chilling effect on citizen involvement in the legislative and administrative process. This is contrary to the principles upon which our country was founded.
- List all the organizations to which you have contributed time or money in the past four years.
